Between Harar and Goree: Tamar Golan – African Pages - Shagrir Collection

Production Notes

The story of the legendary journalist, Tamar Golan, who was the Israeli newspaper Maariv correspondent in Africa. She mainly resided in the Ivory Coast and Gura was one of the main locations from which Africans were kidnapped as slaves for America. The film mentions many African countries where Tamar spent time during her many years on the continent. The film examines the socio-economic situation in these places. In addition, Tamar’s own story is also told. Since the death of her husband, when they were both in Ethiopia and he was only 28 years old, Tamar only wears white clothing, as that is the color of mourning in Africa. In the film, Tamar travels back to Harare for the first time, to visit the school where she and her husband taught and the hotel where they lived.
